Preaching Workshop: Proclaim the Good News!

Matt and Chris Davisdon led a preaching workshop on March 17 sponsored by the Headwaters Mission Center, held at the Community of Christ in Rockford, Illinois. Attendees from Lancaster, Rockford, Beloit/Janesville, Milwaukee/Wauwatosa and Madison.

The group shared in rich discussions around the goals and purpose of a sermon, aligning sermons with the church’s basic beliefs, enduring principles and mission initiatives, and providing balance between education and inspiration. Of course, the Davisdons also encouraged the group to consider various aspects of structure, format and resources, as all these things influence the message.

The last part of the day, the students had fifteen minutes to prepare a short sermon using their favorite scripture and sharing their story. The students then shared their short sermon with the rest of the class, and the class provided written feedback for them to take home with them.
